The Daring Kitchen: Pate

June 14, 2010

If I had to make a list of things I love–I mean things I really really love–picnics would definitely make an appearance near the top of the list.  What’s not to like about sitting outside, staring at the trees with a breeze floating by?  And if you are lucky, you might even get to sit next to a stream on a nice blanket with a bit of pate followed by some fresh strawberries for dessert.  Top that off with a good book and you have the makings of a perfect afternoon.

In my opinion, not even a sudden rainstorm could ruin such an afternoon.  You just pack up and run and splash through the rain straight home and take a nice warm shower.

Luckily for me, however, such actions were not necessary since the sky did not rain on my pate-picnic.  Instead, it just sat up there, looking gorgeous.  I’m sure it was jealous; after all, there was some delicious bacon in the pate!

Our hostesses this month, Evelyne of Cheap Ethnic Eatz, and Valerie of a The Chocolate Bunny, chose delicious pate with freshly baked bread as their June Daring Cook’s challenge! They’ve provided us with 4 different pate recipes to choose from and are allowing us to go wild with our homemade bread choice.

I chose the chicken liver pate with a wheat baguette.  They were fun to make (flambe!) and delicious to eat.  Plus, the recipe makes a ton and freezes well–I’ve gotten two uses out of this one and have only used half.  Thanks for a great choice, Evelyne and Valerie!
